With the economic development of emerging nations, we expect that there will be increasing demand for our technology in the energy field. This is a field in which we will be proactive about expanding the possibilities that our technologies hold.

In the power station field, thermal spray coatings are applied as measures to prevent damage to boiler tubes used in heat power plants.
While the form that such damage takes differs according to the fuel and the atmosphere in the furnace, its causes can be broadly divided into two categories, namely, hot corrosion and erosion.

Aims

High temperature corrosion resistance
Forms of High temperature corrosion include sulfate-, chloride-, and vanadium-induced corrosion. To protect against such forms of corrosion, a nickel-alloy based thermal spray coating - which has excellent corrosion resistance in the corrosive environment inside the furnace - is applied to many boilers. Moreover, depending on the cause of the corrosion, corrosive agents may penetrate the thermal spray coating through pores in the coating. As this may cause generating tubes to corrode, a sealing agent is sometimes applied over the thermal spray coating.
Erosion resistance
In fluidized bed combustion boilers the thickness of generating tubes is reduced due to erosion by the fluidized material. To prevent against such erosion, CrC-based cermets are applied, contributing to extending generating tube lifetime.
